WildKnowledge

Information

WildKnowledge (WK) began life in 2004 as a research project (WildKey) at Oxford Brookes University. The project examined whether mobile devices fitted with GPS and interactive keys would provide a more engaging way of identifying and recording wildlife. After trialling the software with over 1000 users, huge increases in ability and motivation were achieved. As a result of the positive outcomes of the research, WK ‘span out’ from Oxford Brookes in late 2006.

WK believe that mobile / portable devices have limitless potential to deliver not just educational, but also commercial, social and individual benefits through their ability to receive and gather information at the point of need. WK simply provide the tools to facilitate the collation of this information which can be stored privately in the WK portal or shared to promote greater knowledge about a given area of interest. This information is collated via applications such as mobile decision trees (WildKey), recording forms (WildForm), maps (WildMap) and interactive diagrams (WildImage). WK do not prescribe or restrict on how these tools can be applied as we believe mobile technologies and the web, are a great ‘leveller’, enabling anyone, of any background to devise ideas on how this suite of applications can be of benefit them.
